한국의 광복은 결코 조용히 찾아오지 않았습니다. 거센 혼돈과 불확실성 속에서도 멈추지 않고 새로운 시대를 향해 끊임없이 달려나간 이들의 단단한 의지가 있었기에 오늘의 자유와 빛이 가능했습니다. 그들의 움직임은 단순한 저항을 넘어, 역사의 흐름을 바꾸는 질주였습니다. 작품의 중심에 놓인 태극기의 건•곤•감•리는 이들의 ‘길’로 형상화되었습니다. 그 길 위를 흐르는 음과 양은 서로 밀고 당기며 충돌하고, 섞이고, 마침내 하나의 방향성을 향해 나아갑니다. 그 위로는 경계를 넘어 새로운 내일을 향해 쉼없이 달렸던 이들의 끊임없는 움직임을 형상화했습니다.

이 작업은 단지 과거를 기념하는 데 그치지 않습니다.우리가 앞으로도 계속해서 질문하고 움직여야 할 ‘자유’와 ‘연대’그리고 ‘광복’의 진정한 의미를 다시금 환기시킵니다. 80년이 지난 지금도, 어딘가에서 또 다른 누군가는 새로운 길 위에 서서 더 나은 내일을 향한 움직임을 이어가고 있을 것이라 믿습니다.

Korea’s liberation did not arrive quietly.

Amidst chaos and uncertainty, it was the unwavering will of those who relentlessly charged toward a new era that made today’s freedom and light possible.

Their actions went beyond mere resistance they were a powerful surge that altered the course of history. At the heart of this work, the four trigrams of the Taegukgi Geon, Gon, Gam, and Ri are reimagined as “paths” forged by these courageous souls.

On these paths, the forces of yin and yang push, pull, clash, and merge, ultimately moving toward a unified direction. Above these lines, the artwork visualizes the ceaseless movement of those who ran without rest, crossing boundaries in pursuit of a new tomorrow.

This piece does more than commemorate the past it reignites the meaning of “freedom,” “solidarity,” and “liberation” as questions we must continue to ask, and values we must keep in motion. Even 80 years later, we believe that somewhere, someone stands once again at the start of a new path, continuing the journey toward a brighter future.
