광복 80주년을 맞아 우리의 광복을 잊지 않고 태극기에 담긴 조화의 의미를 되새기며, 현재를 살아가는 우리가 다시금 하나로 이어져 상생하길 바라는 마음을 담았습니다. 태극 문양의 음과 양은 조화를 상징하며 이는 광복을 이끌어낸 우리 민족의 단결과 희생, 그리고 오늘날 우리가 지향해야 할 화합과 평화를 나타냅니다. 건곤감리의 직선적 형태를 재조합해 ‘태극’ 레터링을 제작하였고, 독립운동 당시 판화로 찍어낸 태극기의 질감과 물성을 거친 텍스처와 잉크의 번짐을 활용해 표현했습니다.

또한 안중근 의사의 단지혈서 태극기와 광복군 서명문 태극기에서 실제 사용된 ‘대한독립’, ‘자주자립’ 등의 필체를 그대로 담았습니다. 이를 통해 역사적 진정성을 유지함과 동시에 광복을 위해 싸웠던 이들의 의지와 숨결을 담고자 하였습니다.

To mark the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, this work reflects on the meaning of the Taegukgi and the harmony it represents hoping that we, in the present, may once again unite and live in mutual coexistence.

The yin and yang of the Taegeuk symbolize balance embodying the unity and sacrifice that led to liberation, and the harmony and peace we continue to pursue today.

The lettering for “Taeguk” was created by rearranging the geometric forms of the four trigrams, and expressed with rough textures and ink bleeding inspired by the woodblock-printed Taegukgi of the independence movement.

It also incorporates the original handwriting of phrases like “Daehan Dongnip” (Korean Independence) and “Self-Reliance,” taken from historical Taegukgi flags used by figures like Ahn Jung-geun and the Korean Liberation Army.

Through this, the work aims to preserve historical authenticity while honoring the spirit and determination of those who fought for freedom.
