광복 80주년을 기념해, 한국 전통 자개(螺鈿)의 빛결을 통해 태극기를 새롭게 재해석한 작품입니다. 자개의 영롱한 빛을 디지털 아트워크로 구현하여 전통과 현대, 과거 와 미래가 공존하는 한국의 정체성을 표현했습니다. 중앙의 태극은 조화와 순환을 상징하며, 네 모서리의 사괘는 기존의 기호를 넘어 구름, 새, 산, 강으로 확장되어 한국의 자연을 품었습니다. 하늘을 나는 새는 자유와 희망, 구불진 강은 끊임없는 흐름과 미래로 향하는 길, 산은 역사와 뿌리, 구름은 변화와 생명력을 뜻합니다. 어두운 바탕에서 빛나는 자개의 결은, 어둠을 넘어 찬란히 빛나는 우리 민족의 여정과 그 의지를 은유합니다. 이 작품은 한국인의 감성과 문화를 빛으로 새 긴 자개의 아름다움을 존경하는 마음으로 완성되었습니다.

Created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation, this artwork offers a modern reinterpretation of the Taegukgi through the shimmering texture of traditional Korean mother of pearl.By rendering its iridescent glow in digital form, the piece embodies the coexistence of tradition and innovation, the past and the future capturing the layered identity of Korea.At the center, the Taegeuk symbolizes harmony and cyclical balance, while the four trigrams at each corner transcend their original forms to become representations of nature: clouds, birds, mountains, and rivers.The birds in flight express freedom and hope; the winding rivers signify ceaseless flow and the path to the future; the mountains represent history and roots; and the clouds embody transformation and vitality. The luminous grain of mother of pearl shining through a dark background becomes a metaphor for the Korean people’s enduring spirit a journey that shines ever brighter beyond darkness. This work is a heartfelt tribute to the beauty of najeon, crafted with deep respect for the sensibility and culture of Korea.
