‘피어나는 태극’은 광복 80주년을 기념하여, 대한민국의 상징인 태극 문양을 무궁화로 재해석한 작품입니다.

태극의 양(陽)에는 붉은 무궁화, 조화와 순수의 상징인 흰 무궁화가 함께 어우러집니다.

또한, 실제 자연에는 존재하지 않는 파란 무궁화는, 상상의 꽃으로 태극의 음(陰)을 상징적으로 표현하였습니다.

이처럼 현실의 경계를 넘어선 상상 속 무궁화까지 더해진 태극 문양은, 광복 이후 우리 민족이 불가능을 넘어

새로운 희망을 꽃피운 역사를 상징합니다. 각기 다른 색의 무궁화들이 어우러져 하나의 태극을 이루듯, 지난 80년간 우리가 쌓아온 다양성과 화합, 그리고 앞으로 이어질 더 큰 희망을 담고 있습니다. 꽃으로 피어난 태극은

“Blossoming Taegeuk” is a reinterpretation of Korea’s national symbol, the Taegeuk, using mugunghwa (hibiscus) flowers, created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation.

Red mugunghwa represent yang, while white mugunghwa, symbols of harmony and purity, complement them.

A blue mugunghwa, which does not exist in nature, is imagined to represent yin, embodying a symbolic leap beyond reality.

Together, these blossoms form a reimagined Taegeuk that symbolizes the history of a people who overcame the impossible to bloom with new hope after liberation.

Just as flowers of different colors unite to form a single Taegeuk, the piece reflects Korea’s journey of diversity, unity, and growing hope over the past 80 years and beyond.

This Taegeuk, brought to life through flowers, is more than a symbol it is a redefinition of Korean identity and continuity, and a heartfelt wish for a shared future shaped together.
