상단의 붉은 원은 ‘양(陽)’, 하단의 푸른 원은 ‘음(陰)’을 상징하며, 두 원이 맞닿는 지점을 통해 서로 다른

에너지가 어우러지고 순환하는 세계의 질서를 표현했습니다.

각 원에 적용한 질감은 자연을 은유하며, 태극이 내포한 생성과 소멸, 순환의 의미를 시각적으로 드러냈습니다.

동시에, 거친 질감은 일제 강점기의 상처와 억압을 견뎌낸 한국 민중의 서사를 암시하고, 해방과 회복의 서사로 확장했습니다.

사방에 배치한 4괘(건·곤·감·리)는 하늘, 불, 물, 흙의 자연 요소를 상징하며,

절제된 형태와 간결한 구성을 통해 여백의 미를 중시하는 한국적 시각 질서를 담아냈습니다.

“Symbol of Harmony” focuses on the core philosophy of the Taegukgi: the harmony of all things. This work reinterprets the structure of yin and yang and the textures of nature to visualize the order of a world in balance and circulation.

The red circle above represents yang, and the blue circle below represents yin.

The point at which they touch symbolizes the blending of opposing energies and the cyclical nature of the universe.

Each circle carries a texture evoking elements of the natural world, revealing the themes of creation, dissolution, and renewal inherent in the Taegeuk symbol.

The rough surfaces also allude to the pain and oppression endured by the Korean people under Japanese colonial rule yet extend that narrative toward liberation and recovery.

The four trigrams placed at the corners Geon, Gon, Gam, and Ri symbolize the elements of sky, fire, water, and earth.

Their restrained forms and balanced composition reflect the Korean visual aesthetic rooted in simplicity, asymmetry, and the beauty of negative space.
