광복이 된 그날 바로 당일에 해방을 맞이한 사람들의 기쁨과 환호, 어서 거리로 뛰쳐나가고픈 급박함, 드디어 자유를 되찾았다는 감격 등 온갖 감정들이 휘몰아치는 가운데 일필휘지로 그려냈을 태극 문양을 나타냅니다. 1945년 과거로부터 이어진 태극기에 2025년 현재의 내가 디자인을 덧입힌다는 상상을 시각화했습니다. 십오일이 아닌 ‘보름’, 옛 한글의 표기법을 활용한 ‘기쁨’ 이나 ‘대한민국’ 등 작은 디테일로 시대상을 함축하려 했고, 실제 08. 15를 모스부호로 표기한 점과 선들, 국가기록원 구술사에서 발췌한 광복 당시의 발언 등을 구석구석 남겨 오랜 기록의 가치를 상기하고자 했습니다.

This work envisions the Taegeuk symbol as it might have been drawn in a single sweeping motion on the very day of liberation amid the whirlwind of emotions: joy, urgency, disbelief, and the overwhelming relief of reclaimed freedom.

It is a visual imagining of overlaying my own 2025 design onto the Taegukgi from 1945, connecting past and present.

Details such as the use of old Korean spellings for words like “boreum” (full moon), “gippeum” (joy), and “Daehanminguk” aim to reflect the era’s atmosphere.

Morse code for “08.15,” symbolic lines, and phrases sourced from the National Archives’ oral records of Liberation Day are embedded throughout reminding us of the enduring value of history and memory.
