전통 태극기는 중심과 대칭, 음양과 사상의 상징이자 질서의 기호입니다. 이 작업은 태극기의 구성 요소인 태극과 사괘(건·곤·감·리)를 해체하고, 반복과 왜곡, 그리고 규칙적인 패턴의 형태로 재구성합니다. 가운데의 원형 구조는 태극의 형상을 바탕으로, 블랙 패턴은 각각의 괘(卦)를 추상을 바탕으로 구성하였습니다. 끊긴 선과 이어진 선, 중첩된 반복 구조를 통해 건곤감리의 형식을 시각적 패턴 속에 잠입시켰고, 중심에서 바깥으로 파동처럼 확장되는 구조는 태극기의 중심 상징이 오늘날 어떤 방식으로 해석되고 확산될 수 있는지를 묻습니다. 배경의 색은 태극기의 붉은색과 푸른색을 점이적 전환으로 풀어내어 유동적인 흐름을 담고, 반복되는 격자와 곡선은 스크린 감각에 기반한 반복적 리듬을 차용한 것으로, 반복 속에서 생겨나는 새로운 해석의 가능성을 드러냅니다.

The traditional Taegukgi is a symbol of balance and structure representing center and symmetry, yin and yang, and the order of the cosmos.

This work deconstructs its key elements—the Taegeuk and the four trigrams (Geon, Gon, Gam, Ri) and reconfigures them into forms of repetition, distortion, and regulated patterns.

The central circular form is based on the Taegeuk, while the black patterns are abstracted interpretations of the trigrams.

Disconnected and connected lines, overlapping repetitions, and modular rhythms embed the visual logic of the trigrams within the structure of the composition.

The outward wave-like expansion from the center raises the question: How can the core symbol of the Taegukgi be reinterpreted and diffused in today’s context?

The background color transitions from red to blue key colors of the flag rendered in a pixelated gradient that suggests fluid movement.

The repeated grids and curves borrow from screen-based rhythms, revealing the potential for new interpretations to emerge through repetition.
