8월 15일 광복절은 남한과 북한이 오늘날까지도 함께 기념하는 유일한 국가 공 휴일입니다. 오랜 분단의 역사 속에서 여전히 공유되는 이 날은, 우리가 본래 하 나였던 민족임을 상기시키는 상징적인 의미를 담고 있습니다. 제 작업은 이 사실 에서 출발하여, 1945년 우리가 함께 되찾은 빛’과 해방’의 순간을 시각적으로 표현하고자 했습니다. 중심에는 태극기의 네 괘(건, 곤, 감, 리)를 재해석해 광선처럼 퍼져나가는 형태로 표현했습니다. 이는 일제 강점기로부터 해방되며 되찾은 ‘광복’의 빛을 상징하며, 민족이 깨어나는 강렬한 순간을 시각화한 것입니다.

배경에는 남한의 9개 도와 북한의 9개 도를 각각 상징하는 붉은색과 파란색-색동 무늬를 교차 배치해 나란히 구성했습니다. 이는 남과 북이 나란히 존재하며 언젠가 다시 하나로 이어질 수 있기를 바라는 염원을 담고 있습니다. 이 작품은 상징적이고 대담한 표현으로 현대적인 조형 안에 깊은 역사성을 담고 자 했습니다. 퍼져나가는 빛은 단순한 ‘해방의 순간’을 넘어, 미래 통일에 대한 지 속적인 희망을 상징합니다.

August 15th, Independence Day, is the only national holiday still celebrated by both North and South Korea. In a divided nation, this shared remembrance is rare and powerful. My design begins with this idea: before separation, there was unity. In 1945, we regained the same light together.

At the center, I reinterpreted the four trigrams of the Taegukgi (건, 곤, 감, 리), arranging them in a radiating burst to symbolize the return of

“light” (광복) and the collective energy of liberation.

Behind this, alternating red and blue stripes represent the nine provinces of South Korea and the nine of North Korea. Placed side by side, they visualize the idea of balance, coexistence, and a hope for reunification.

My design aims to be bold and symbolic, yet deeply grounded in history. The burst of light represents not only the moment of liberation, but also the enduring hope for future unification.
