국새는 왕실과 국가의 중요한 통치 행위의 결정과 외교 문서의 사용하던 인장으로 최고 권위를 가진 행정용 관인입니다. 그중에서도 ‘황제지보’는 국명을 대한제국으로 정하며 자주국으로서의 위상을 드러내고자 제작되어 상당한 역사적 가치를 가집니다. 이 인장에 태극의 느낌을 담아내어 대한민국의 자주독립을 다시금 되새기고자 하였습니다. 인장의 겹친 듯한 형상을 태극으로 표현하였고, 사괘는 추상적으로 분해되어 독립선언서의느낌을 주었습니다.

The Guksae (National Seal) is the highest administrative seal, historically used in key royal and state affairs, including decisions of governance and diplomatic documents. Among them, the Hwangjejeebo (Imperial Seal) was created to mark the official naming of the nation as the Daehan Empire, asserting Korea’s sovereignty and holds significant historical value.

This work reinterprets the form of that seal with the spirit of the Taegeuk, evoking Korea’s hard-won independence. The overlapping structure of the seal is expressed through a Taegeuk-inspired composition, while the four trigrams (sagwae) are abstractly deconstructed to evoke the spirit of the Korean Declaration of Independence.
