<수직태극>에서는 태극기가 갖고 있는 전통적 요소인 팔괘와 태극을 기하학적인 패턴으로 재구성했습니다. 중심의 원형 구조는 태극기의 ‘태극’과 숫자 80을 동시에 연상시키며, 반복되는 수직 패턴은 서울의 건축물, 한글의 조형성과 같은 현대 한국의 시각적 형태를 반영합니다. 전체적으로는 전통적인 이미지를 그대로 사용하는 대신, 광복 이후 한국의 모습을 태극기의 조형을 통해 표현하고자 했습니다.

In Vertical Taegeuk, the traditional elements of the Korean flag specifically the trigrams (palgwae) and the Taegeuk symbol are reinterpreted through geometric patterns.

The central circular form evokes both the Taegeuk and the number 80, commemorating the 80th anniversary of liberation.

The repeated vertical motifs reflect the visual structures of modern Korea, such as its architecture and the formative nature of Hangul.

Rather than simply reproducing traditional imagery, the piece expresses Korea’s post-liberation identity through the visual language of the flag.
